Alpha Omega Omegron – The Alpha

Introduction

We at Audiomonsta have always been an avid supporter of local audio products and the Sarawak based custom in-ear monitors makers, Alpha Omega (AO for short) has certainly been an up and rising stars in the local as well as international industry. We have covered some of their lineup ranging from their entry single BA Epsilon to their midrange like the triple BA Lambda and 6 BA Iota, nonetheless, they are simply amazing in their build, sound, along with a very worthwhile price tag. Mr Clement Ling from AO indeed has a deep yearning for perfection and from his enthusiasm, rises a hybrid flagship, the Omegron. AO has kindly sent us a pair of the Omegtron for an honest review and I am totally stoked by this product as they are packed with innovative tuning designs and their implementation of electrostatic drivers. A big thanks to the Alpha Omega team for the opportunity given. My curiosity has been boiling over for the sound of this product and the crucial fundamental question arises, how will the Omegron perform at the peak of in-ear performance? We shall seek the answers.

Packaging & Accessories

The packaging of the Omegron is basic as expected from a custom made in-ears. It comes in a medium sized box with their brand embossing on it. Inside we will find a plastic hard case, 3 pairs of Kbear 07 eartips in different sizes and a 4 core mix copper cable that feels very well made. Nothing much to say nor to complain here as the sound and design is the main selling point here

Design

The unit that’s with me here is a limited edition paintwork done by a local artist and it is truly delicious eye candy. The matching of the colours along with specks of gold foil is truly mesmerising and I really dig this paintwork. Truly a work of art.

As for the shell, they are made from high quality resin that feels solid and comfortable on the ear. They are polished to perfection and have a shine that gives a premium look to them.

At the side of the Omegron, they have installed an air pressure gas cap that is similar to the 64ears in-ears to relieve pressure built up inside your ears and to increase the sound field. Users can change the types of gas caps available from 64ears and give a different tuning flavour to the Omegron.

The tuning options don’t end there. At the top of the in-ears they have fitted 3 tuning plugs that provide 7 different types of tunings that really have a big effect on the sound. Pretty nifty indeed.

The cable included is a 1.2 metre, 3.5mm 4 core 2 pin 0.78mm plug and they are a mixture of 3 different types of material twisted together (gold-plated copper+copper cable+silver plated copper). They look very well made and they are soft and light in weight. Sound wise, I do feel an increase in clarity and soundstage when used on other in-ears in my collection.

Tone and Presentation

The tone of the Omegron is a warm to neutral signature that is velvety smooth along with great definition on their presentation. It is very well balanced in their sound spectrum with all the tuning switched off and can be tweaked to a variety of sounds to your liking. Clarity on the Omegron is superb without sounding thin or cold, instead they are very musical in-ears that are fun and accurate at the same time.

Soundstage

Soundstage that the Omegron provide is rather average for their price range but they do possess an open airy sound and quite enjoyable even on live performances. The Width of the Omegtron is quite good but the height is mediocre. They have a more intimate, focused sound to them luring users to enjoy the music. Headroom is also mediocre but they do not sound too closed in instead they are quite airy. The pressure air gas caps can be swapped for other caps that might increase the soundstage but sadly I do not have other gas caps to experiment on.

Separation and Timbre

Seperation is superb on the Omegron as they are finely tuned to showcase every single layer of music clearly without any congestion. They are very resolving in-ears that give music a transparent sound without any added coloration. Timbre sounds perfect and spot on as they have a natural sound on instruments and vocals alike with the perfect amount of intensity to sound musically fun.

Drivability

Rated at 32 ohm with a 112db sensitivity, they are not hard to drive per-say, but they need some juice to perform at their best. They are super sensitive and will easily pick up noise like a typical balanced armature in-ears. The Omegron is quite forgiving in the files you feed it on and they sound great on low or high resolution files or choosy with the gears you are using but they do scale up quite considerably with better source.

The Bass (Low)

Here is where the Omegron potential comes to play. Bass is very well textured and they have a great adequate slam on the normal switch tuning. They have a great clarity and details embedded in their presentation without any bleed to other frequencies with great control. They are no means in basshead territory but they are more to a pure, clean bass performance. Adjusting the number 1 switch, bass has a bigger quantity making them a little harder hitting with a lift in their mid-bass. Sub-bass has a presence and they are well extended but lacks a “sub-woofer” like experience that some users might yearn for. Overall, bass is clean, clear and pure sounding suitable for long listening sessions with minimal fatigue.

The Mids

Midrange that the Omegron brings to the table is a well balanced, neutral and warm sounding style that has a dark velvety taste to them especially on vocals. Their thickness has the right consistency that makes music very enjoyable while sounding accurate and clear as well. Details here are quite good on the macro details but they do lack some micro detailing in their midrange. Colouration that they give to the music is minimal and that makes them sound accurately organic. Vocals are their strong suit as on male or female vocals, as well as instruments alike, sounding sweet, intimate and lush. Resolution is on par with in-ears in their price range and they sounded very holographic.

The Highs

The high performance is the main course of the Omegron as they are equipped with the venerable, all new miniature dual electrostatic drivers from Sonion. Their high range is a very well extended, airy and lively performance that certainly punches above their asking price. Details and clarity here is top notch as they have a great transparency in their presentation along with great accuracy and a natural decay. Treble that they present has a distinct sparkling and crunchy quality that is only present in a well tuned electrostatic driver and they are uber fun to listen to without any fatigue. The energy that they produce is good and makes music livelier without any harshness occuring. As a treble head myself, I really do find the high range performed here at the top of the line in the in-ears arena as they are superbly tuned to match with their overall sound of this Omegron.

Comparisons

VS JH Audio JH13V2 pro

The venerable JH Audio legendary inhear that has been in the market for a while now and they are still going strong. They are equipped with 8 balanced armature with their own freqphase crossover that produces a great coherency on their drivers. The JH13V2 pro is slightly pricier than the Omegtron.

High region of the Omegtron has a bigger and better presence with better sparkle. JH13V2 pro treble sounder smoother and more accurate overall but might sound a little polite at times.

Midrange of the JH13V2 pro sounded thicker and had a better resolution while the Omegtron midrange sounded more lush. Vocals on Omegtron sounded sweeter and possessed more body.

Bass quantity on JH13V2 pro has the edge in their quantity and they are adjustable via the cable provided but they are slightly on the stronger side. Bass on the Omegtron is more organic and clearer.

Soundstage on the JH13V2 pro is slightly wider and taller.

VS Dunu EST112

The EST112 from Dunu TopSound from China is a staple of a tribrid in-ear that has a similar electrostatic driver in the Omegron. It has a single BA and a dynamic driver to match the electrostatic driver. The EST112 is cheaper than the latter by almost all but lacks tuning refinement like in the Omegron and they are not as comfortable as well.

High region on both has the same quantity but sparkle on the EST112 is more prominent. Details on the Omegron high range are better and they sound smoother overall.

Midrange of the Omegron is thicker, sweeter and lusher. Clarity in the midrange of the EST112 is better but details are rather similar. Resolution on the EST112. Has a slight edge but might sound a little cold at times.

Bass on the EST112 has a better slam due to their dynamic driver and they also extend better in their sub-bass. Omega bass sounded cleaner and clearer with a more intimate sounding bass response.

Soundstage in the EST112 is wider and taller than the Omegron.

Synergy

FiiO M17

The flagship of FiiO’s DAP, the M17 is a beast when it comes to driving power and they are packed with high end features. They have a power and also control in-ears very well with their low gain. The bass the M17 is able to give the Omegron is superb as they sounded tighter and clearer with an extension in their sub-bass region. Details are also improved with clearer bass tone and decay. Midrange sounded more neutral and clearer overall with vocal notes clearer while still retaining a lush performance in the Omegron. High range smoothes out a little and they seemed to sparkle a little better without adding fatigue in my listening sessions.  Soundstage is where they improve the most in the Omegron as they possess a better expansion in width and height making them a little more enjoyable especially with live performances. Overall, the Omegron certainly benefited with the extra juice from the M17  to make them perform better overall and they are a great match.

Questyle M15

The Questyle M15 is the king of dongle DAC/amplifiers that has the best performance in the dongle section. They are really sublime with the current amplification and have loads of power to drive even full sized headphones. They are a neutral to bright sounding to begin with and match the warm and dark signature of the Omegron well. Bass on the Omegron has remained mostly the same in quantity but in terms of quality, they sounded a little tighter and clearer overall. Sub-bass seemed to be deeper with better extension. Midrange has a more forward path with a clearer sound making the Omegron sound more enjoyable than it already is. Highs had been increased by a little in quantity and they still retained the quality and sparkle of the electrostatic drivers. High range has also benefited from this pairing with better extension on them. Soundstage has a slight increase in their width and depth. Overall, I do find they complement each other very well, better than my expectations.

Who Is It For?

The Omegron is for those who love a dark, warm, hugging intimate sound while still having a great degree of clarity and details that are top notch. They are also able to cater to those who wanted a wider selection in their sound as the Omegron is a swiss army knife in their tuning capacity with their tuning switch that works wonders and the air gasket caps as well. To those who seek to experience top quality electrostatic treble, the Omegron certainly showcased it very well indeed.

Final words

Alpha Omega has certainly done it this time with this Omegron as they are easy on the ear and eyes at the same time. They are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful looking in-ears that i ever held in hand along with a solid build that is only for top shelves items. With all those tuning options, they are able to match my listening preference and the tuning switches are in no way a gimmick as they do change the sound quite drastically without any distortions. Sound wise I do feel that they lack a more dynamic bass slam and their soundstage might sound a little too closed in for their price range but their mid range to the high range is simply alluring that I can’t deny their greatness. Yes it is quite a steep price, but for that you are greeted with top quality components along with a handmade product that is simply well with love and for that, the price is justifiable. Amazing job nonetheless for this Omegron.

I would rate this product a solid 4 and a half stars over 5 stars
