This is a short review on Hisenior Mega5est
Cable and Comfort
I am not into cable. My type of cable is simple and elegant. The last cable that I love is timeless 7hz cable, a beautiful white sleeve. The Mega5est remind me of those beuatiful cable. Mega5est cable is simple to arrange, not too thick, and not too thin which can cause entanglement (I am looking at you Etymotic cable). The white sleeve which ends with beautiful crafted plug. Hmmm, so nice.
The shell of the iem fit comfortable to my ears, a thing that unusual for Headphone and flathead user like me. The IEM shell is designed like a ciem, meaning it comfortably placed around your conchae. I remember the comfort shell of DUnu SA6 and Moondrop SSR, and I can attest that this Mega5est shell felt fell comfortable as well. The nozzle diameter however, on the larger side for me, I could not wear more than 2 hours. To compare relatively, most of the IEM I use, I cannot use it for more than 30 minutes. So, Mega5est is one of the most comfortable IEM.
Tuning
The tuning of the Mega5est is somewhat u-shaped neutral. The bass and treble are a bit elevated, enveloping the vocal.
Vocal
The vocal timbre, men or women is very accurate and sweet. Husky voice of Don Henley during Hotel California is very good. Lady Gaga quirks in I’ll Never Love Again, ( a quirk that I believe make her voice mesmerizing) is heavenly replicated in Mega5est. Despite the U shaped tuning of bass and treble, and only a limited location specified for Vocal, the vocal is still a stand out for a vocal centric song.
Technical
This is intimate tuning IEM. It does not have large soundstage like Moondrop Blessing. Therefore, you felt like the drums, guitar, piano are played too close to each other. However, despite having a limited separation, each of the instrument timbre are played accurately. You feel guitar pluck, and trombone low bass are played with satisfying manner. Another downside is that, the reverberation or decay of the instrument is not giving breath accurately due to limited soundstage.
Conclusion
The Hisenior Mega5est is a mid-fi IEM that impresses with its elegant, practical cable design and exceptional comfort, especially for headphone and flathead users. Its U-shaped neutral tuning offers elevated bass and treble, delivering accurate and captivating vocal timbre, making it ideal for vocal-centric tracks. While it excels in timbre accuracy and instrument texture, the intimate tuning results in a narrow soundstage with limited separation and slightly constrained reverberation. Despite its larger nozzle size limiting extended wear, the Mega5est remains a solid choice for those prioritizing comfort, vocal clarity, and an intimate listening experience.
